The Opportunity

Company, Department: Nova Scotia Power, Power Production - Tuft's Cove Generating Station

Location: Tuft's Cove, NS - On-Site

Salary: $51.79 per hour, as per the NSPI / IBEW Collective Agreement

Type of Employment: Full time, Regular

Closing Date: September 4, 2025

We are looking for a Power Engineer to join our Power Production team. Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, you will be responsible for all aspects of the safe and cost-efficient operation of the high-pressure boiler turbine unit(s) and all associated auxiliary equipment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working effectively as a member of the Power Production Operations Team and functioning in a planned work environment.
  • Participating in competency-based training, regulatory training, and on-the-job training to develop additional skills.
  • Ensuring personal safety and that of co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • Supporting environmental performance and ISO 14001 initiatives.
  • Participating in Emergency Response as needed.
  • Traveling throughout the province and being available for call-outs within 60 minutes of your primary residence.
  • Ensuring compliance with all NERC / NPCC reliability standards.

This position is safety-sensitive and requires a pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with company policy.

Qualifications include:

  • 2nd Class Power Engineer Certificate and at least three (3) years' experience in a similar setting.
  • Acceptable color vision for control monitoring.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, adaptability, and teamwork skills.
  • Candidates with a 3rd Class Power Engineer Certificate or enrolled in the final year of a 3rd Class program will be considered as apprentices.

Physical capabilities include lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, and climbing as described in the detailed physical requirements.
