Overview

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations from foundational services such as Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) to new product innovations that differentiate AWS. As a member of the UC organization, you'll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Amazon is looking for a highly motivated Senior Systems Development Engineer who can balance day-to-day operations of AWS software systems with long-term software engineering to reduce operational toil. We seek engineers who enjoy learning and diving deep into the range of systems and technologies that power one of the world's largest cloud providers.

About the team

Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations from foundational services such as S3 and EC2 to new product innovations that set AWS's services apart. As a member of UC, you'll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Iot, Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including security-focused solutions for customers.

The Region Services team redefines how AWS designs, builds, and operates AWS regions to enable new Cloud Infrastructure and Services offerings for customers across industries and sizes.

Responsibilities
  • Balance day-to-day operations of AWS software systems with long-term software engineering to reduce operational toil.
  • Dive deep into the wide range of systems and technologies that power one of the world's largest cloud providers.
  • Collaborate with teams to improve reliability, performance, and efficiency of services.
  • Contribute to design, build, and deployment of scalable software solutions in production.
  • Participate in incident response and on-call rotations as needed.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • 5+ years of systems development in an IT or data center environment.
  • 3+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience.
  • 3+ years of programming in a modern language (C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby).
  • Experience leading the design, build and deployment of complex, reliable, scalable software solutions in production.
  • Experience with distributed systems at scale.
