We're looking for an experienced Engineering Manager who can bring out the best in our people and processes. You'll focus on supporting a high-performing team, fostering collaboration, and ensuring our technology decisions are aligned with delivering great outcomes for our clients.

About the role

As an Engineering Manager, you'll champion culture transformation, mentor talent, and ensure technical excellence across complex projects. You'll balance people leadership with delivery execution, creating an environment where developers thrive and teams consistently deliver high-quality code.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering and working closely with cross-functional stakeholders, you'll support department efficiency, optimise resource and capacity planning, and align outcomes with business objectives.

Your day may include:

  • Leading, mentoring, and developing engineering talent through regular 1:1s, coaching, and actionable feedback.
  • Championing culture by fostering collaboration, inclusion, and autonomy across teams.
  • Driving resource and capacity efficiencies to ensure team composition supports delivery goals.
  • Partnering with delivery teams to define and streamline processes that enhance department efficiency.
  • Leading teams to deliver impactful results on complex technical projects.
  • Aligning technology strategies with business goals to support long-term growth and success.
  • Monitoring performance reviews to ensure they provide constructive feedback and support career development.
  • Acting as custodian of your team's work, ensuring accountability, transparency, and quality in delivery.

Skills and experience:

  • 7+ years' experience as a Software Engineer, or similar technical role.
  • 3+ years' experience directly leading, mentoring, and developing Software Engineers.
  • Proven track record leading high-performing teams and delivering impactful results.
  • Strong understanding of software design principles, scalability, security, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage resource and capacity efficiencies across development teams.
  • Experience with conducting performance reviews, providing constructive feedback, and coaching for growth.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to adapt for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • High emotional intelligence, with the ability to champion culture and resolve challenges effectively.
  • Experience in an ecommerce or digital agency environment is a bonus.

This role is full-time and can be based in any of our Convert Digital offices (Melbourne, Brisbane, or Sydney), with hybrid working arrangements.
