Job Title: Configuration/Technical Data Manager

Location: Russell, ACT

Primary Purpose:

HCF Combat Systems is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Configuration/Technical Data Manager to join our team. The primary purpose of this role is to provide guidance and management for the delivery of all combat systems in relation to Configuration Management. This position offers a high degree of autonomy and accountability, with the opportunity to work independently while contributing to strategic planning, program and project management, and policy development. The successful candidate will provide detailed technical advice on complex tasks and exercise initiative and judgment in applying policies, practices, and procedures.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

Commercial and Technical:

  1. Support the Program Director (PD) and assist with additional tasks as required.
  2. Perform complex technical configuration activities, prioritizing work to achieve agreed outcomes.
  3. Accountable for exercising assigned technical authorities and delegations of any Technical Regulatory Authority.
  4. Develop and review technical packages, providing in-depth advice on their content and requirements.
  5. Identify risks and uncertainties in technical projects and factor these into planning, decision-making, and priority setting.
  6. Foster a positive work environment, build relationships, and mentor developing technicians.
  7. Tailor communication style to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  8. Assess and review technical packages, scoping, planning, and recommending improvements.
  9. Evaluate technical packages, reports, processes, and performance of products/equipment to ensure they meet requirements, recommending continuous improvements and corrective actions as necessary.
  10. Ensure that safety considerations are incorporated into all technical configuration activities and tasks in line with defence capabilities.

Knowledge Management:

  1. Manage technical knowledge of relevant processes, packages, products, and equipment, ensuring best practices are followed and shared across the team.

People and Processes:

  1. Ensure personal safety and adhere to safe work practices as per company OSH/HSE guidelines.
  2. Follow departmental procedures and guidelines in all tasks.
  3. Liaise with the Program Manager to escalate issues, work concerns, or approvals.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  1. Ability to accurately estimate work requirements, measured by problem complexity, completion time, and problem resolution efficiency.
  2. High accuracy in work completed, ensuring minimal time spent on corrections and adjustments.

Qualifications & Skills:

  1. Extensive experience in configuration management and technical data management, preferably in defence or combat systems.
  2. Strong technical background with experience in developing and reviewing technical packages.
  3. Ability to identify risks, make decisions, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  5. Ability to work independently, as well as part of a collaborative team.
  6. Knowledge of safety and regulatory standards in a defence environment.
  7. A relevant technical degree or qualification in engineering or a related field is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Previous experience in managing configuration or technical data within defence or combat system projects.
  2. Experience working with defence capability, safety, and regulatory frameworks.
