Position InformationBinnaway Central School is an important part of a small rural community near Coonabarabran in the Warrumbungle Shire. It provides education from Kindergarten to Year 12, with small classes providing high levels of individual attention. The school's core values "Respectful, Responsible, Communicators" and the school motto, "The Effort, Not The Reward", remind staff, students and community of the school's high expectations for commitment in all endeavours.
The school currently has a student population of approximately 45 students, with an Aboriginal student enrolment of 31%, with an equal balance of students in both primary and secondary. The majority of students are drawn from the township of Binnaway with a number of students residing in the small community of Neilrex. Binnaway Central School sits on the lands of the Gamilaraay nation, and works in close consultation with the community including Aboriginal Elders.
There is an emphasis on literacy and numeracy learning in the school, particularly in Early Stage 1/Stage 1. In addition to focusing on literacy and numeracy, there is also a focus on career transition planning across the secondary cohort and provide workplace opportunities for the senior secondary students. The senior school has a vocational educational focus.
The school aims to enhance the wellbeing and holistic learning of its students through welfare initiatives including Positive Behaviour for Learning program, Student Representative Council and the Aboriginal Education Team. Staff and student wellbeing is a priority supported by The Resilience Project.
The school is committed to developing stronger ties with the local community through its involvement in a variety of community events.
Specific Selection CriteriaIn addition to the general selection criteria,
- Proven ability as an Instructional Leader to lead targeted professional learning and evidence-based practice, embed quality teaching practices, including inclusive individualised education programs focused on improving student outcomes across K-12 with a strong focus on the foundations of reading and numeracy.
- A highly visible, collaborative, and inspiring leader who demonstrates success and capacity in building authentic connections and collaboration with parents, community, and external agencies to strengthen a culture of productive educational partnerships and promote the profile of the school to enhance learning, wellbeing, attendance, and student achievement.
- Strong, visible, and strategic leadership that builds staff and executive capacity and collective responsibility to lead improvement, innovation and change through the implementation of effective systems, processes and practices that are focused on school improvement and achievement of the priorities in the 2024 – 2027 School Excellence Plan.
- High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
- Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
- High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
- Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
- Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
- Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department\'s Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school's RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P1 for 2025.
