Overview

Chief Executive - South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission (SAFECOM). This role is based in Adelaide, South Australia. Shape the Future of Emergency Services in South Australia by leading SAFECOM under the guidance of its Board and working with SA's fire and emergency service organisations to ensure that volunteers and employees within the emergency services sector (ESS) have the resources and support they need to carry out their vital work. SAFECOM also leads in supporting emergency capabilities across the state and developing new initiatives to roll out across the ESS. Applications close at 5:00pm on Friday, 19 September 2025. The role appeals to a dynamic, outward-focused, engaging and inspiring leader with relevant experience and expertise to support the Minister for Emergency Services and Correctional Services in discharging all legislative responsibilities as outlined in the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2005 (SA).

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Chief Officers of the SA Metropolitan Fire Service, Country Fire Service and State Emergency Service to develop and manage a risk-based Emergency Management Framework for the State within a national context.
  • Ensure the effective allocation of resources within the ESS to provide frontline services that protect and support South Australia's community.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic policy framework supported by risk management strategies and systems.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to initiate sector improvements and maintain key capabilities such as Public Information and Warning Systems and the State Emergency Information Call Centre Capability.
  • Engage with relevant volunteer associations and unions as part of the role's stakeholder engagement.
  • Support the Minister for Emergency Services and Correctional Services in fulfilling legislative responsibilities under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2005 (SA).
