Job Description

We are looking for a caring and kind educationally focused French-speaking nanny. Someone with nannying and educating/tutoring experience. Fun, warm, responsible, and able to set boundaries.

Duties:

  • Teaching/speaking French
  • Educating children
  • Helping with homework (primarily for a 5-year-old; a 9-year-old has a tutor after school sometimes)
  • Focusing on manners
  • Making dinners for children
  • General household duties related only to children

There is plenty of time during the day to prepare children's meals and snacks, ensure their school uniforms are ready, and plan fun and interesting activities after school.

Must also speak good English to support the 5-year-old with her homework.

Schedule includes 2 full days (circa 7 am - 6:30 pm) and 2 split days (morning and after school: 7-8:30 am and 2:30-6:30 pm), with one later night for babysitting on a chosen day.

Shorter days during school holidays (around 8 am - 6 pm).

Generous holiday allowance.

Sole charge role, with at least one parent mostly working from home.

The family has no pets and does not require a driver.

Requirements

  • Live within reasonable commute of Herne Hill (close to Herne Hill station)
  • At least 2 years of childcare experience
  • Educated, preferably to degree level
  • Experience working with school-aged children
  • Experience tutoring or supporting children's education
  • Up-to-date Enhanced DBS
  • Recent Paediatric First Aid certificate
  • Right to work in the UK and proof thereof
  • Good references for recent and relevant nanny work
  • Proof of previous long-term positions (ideally 2+ years in each)
  • Long-term availability

Please note this is a strictly non-smoking position.

Additional Qualities

The ideal candidate will be kind, nurturing, and experienced with newborns, with at least two years of hands-on childcare experience. They should be energetic, proactive, and comfortable in a shared care role, supporting both children and household operations. A tidy, organized approach is essential, along with a respectful and discreet attitude, especially in a live-in setting. The candidate should be confident in cooking healthy meals for children and possess a cheerful, positive nature. Willingness to travel with the family, particularly over summer, is a strong advantage.
