Consultant Obstetrician

The Role

Provide clinical care to patients referred to, or requiring the care of, the Dubbo Health Service, at a level consistent with the standards expected of an Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultant. This includes patients on the ward, in outpatient areas, in the Emergency Department. You will also oversee the work of assigned junior medical staff, including the adequacy of documentation, safe practice, team work, and communication and prescribing.

The Hospital

Dubbo Health Service underwent a major transformation to provide expanded and upgraded clinical services, costing over $250million. The redevelopment of Dubbo Hospital has been designed with the most up-to-the-minute advancements in medical practice in mind. The facilities are world-class. These include 6 ultra-modern Integrated Digital Operating Theatres, a new 32-bed Surgical Inpatient Unit, a new and expanded ICU / HDU, and 20 Bed Coronary Care Ward; and a new Emergency Department to accommodate the busiest trauma centre in Western NSW.

Requirements

Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College for Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA or New Zealand.

The Medical Board of Australia has introduced an expedited pathway to specialist registration in Obstetrics & Gynaecology — no college assessment required — for doctors holding either :

MRCOG (2007 onward) with a UK Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or

MRCPI (2010 onward) with a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training (CSCST) from Ireland.
