We're looking for a dynamic AOD Nurse Practitioner to join the team at Western Health Drug Health Services (DHS) to provide support to relevant community and inpatient programs.

This Specialist Addiction Service offers innovative and diverse programs for Adults, Women's and Children's Services, Youth and Family Services, Residential Withdrawal Services and Addiction Medicine Services.

Nurse Practitioners at DHS provide specialist support to numerous AOD services including a busy outpatient opioid treatment clinic and the Addiction Medicine Consultation & Liaison Service.

This role will primarily support the Hamilton Centre (Statewide service) for Mental Health and Substance Use or Addiction. The Hamilton Centre supports people with co-occurring disorders, and their families and supporters. They can access integrated and holistic care throughout Victoria via Hamilton centre. As a Partner Provider of a new Statewide Service, Western Health is funded to provide primary and secondary consultations to consumers in Western Melbourne and Western Victoria living with mental health and substance use, and support specialist training opportunities.

The Nurse Practitioner will use advanced clinical nursing skills to deliver high quality AOD assessment and treatment to clients and families of DHS. This role also holds the following key components, working across the spectrum of potential AOD presentations:

  • Screening
  • Clinical assessment
  • Motivational interviewing
  • Commencement of appropriate AOD treatments
  • Linkage into appropriate community and/or hospital-based addiction treatment services

The Nurse Practitioner role is grounded in the nursing profession's values, knowledge, theories and practice and provides innovative and flexible health care delivery that complements other health care providers. The scope of practice of the Nurse Practitioner Candidate is determined by the context in which the Candidate is authorised to practice. The Nurse Practitioner will be supported in achieving appropriate clinical experience and offered supervision.

This position is a permanent, part-time position (0.5 EFT).

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Recognised qualifications as an Addiction Medicine or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner;
  • Well-developed professional communication and interpersonal skills;
  • A demonstrated commitment to professional development of self and others;
  • A demonstrated commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and delivery of evidence-based best care;
  • A desire to contribute to a positive organisational culture and role model professionalism with respect to patient dignity and compassion, effective communication, and ethical clinical care;
  • A desire to be involved in service evaluation, audits, and research activities.
