The Position

We are seeking highly skilled and motivated Psychiatrists to join a large Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Service in Far North Queensland. Psychiatrists of all specialties are encouraged to apply, with particular interest in Child and Youth Psychiatry and Rural / Remote Mental Health. These are permanent, full-time positions offering the opportunity to make a real impact across diverse communities. Health Service

This Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Service provides public mental health care across a vast catchment area—from Tully in the south, to the Torres Strait Islands in the north, and west to Croydon. The region services a population of approximately 275,000 people, including a significant proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The service is based in Cairns, but outreach spans rural and remote locations.

Essential Criteria

  • Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), or international equivalent
  • Eligibility for AHPRA Specialist Registration in Psychiatry
  • Expertise in any subspecialty, with priority given to Child & Youth Psychiatry and Rural / Remote Mental Health
  • Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centred care across diverse communities
  • Strong communication skills and cultural competence, particularly in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
