Overview

Responsibilities
  • Design, create and manage cloud databases and data pipelines that underpin a decoupled cloud architecture and API-first approach.
  • Collaborate with AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineers, Software/API Developers and Architects to design, develop, deploy and operate data services and solutions for a cloud ecosystem.
  • Own functional and non-functional design aspects and contribute to roadmaps and technical direction of data services on AWS environments.
  • Model data and ensure data quality, availability and reliability to support advanced analytics, machine learning and generative AI requirements.
  • Contribute to an Agile, engineering-led culture within the HR Data Engineering centre of excellence and People Analytics team.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Deep understanding of data modelling and data quality; extensive experience with SQL and relational databases (e.g., MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience designing and building reliable and efficient data pipelines using modern cloud services on AWS (e.g., S3, Lambda, Redshift, Glue); ability to process large data volumes efficiently.
  • Experience with data-centric frameworks such as Spark; programming knowledge in Scala or Python; comfortable with Linux, shell scripting and automation frameworks.
  • Experience with automating data ingestion and transformation processes using scheduling tools; monitoring and troubleshooting data pipelines for reliability and performance.
  • Knowledge of data formats (JSON, CSV, XML) and data validation, cleaning and transformation techniques; familiarity with database design, indexing and normalization.
  • Experience with version control (e.g., Git) and CI/CD practices.
  • Desirable: Experience with Workday or payroll data integration; familiarity with AWS data products such as Glue and EMR.
Technical Skills
  • Design and implement new data models with field mappings and transformation logic from source systems to domain models.
  • AWS data products: AWS Glue, AWS EMR; AWS S3 ingestion, transformation and writing to databases.
  • Programming: Python, Scala or Java for data ingestion and transformation; strong SQL skills.
  • Automation and scheduling: bash scripting, cron, and related tooling.
  • Version control: Git for collaboration.
