We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist to join our large, friendly general practice team. The successful candidate will be responsible for obtaining blood samples from patients in a safe, professional, caring manner, ensuring high standards of safe, quality care. You will work closely with the wider GP team: Doctors, nurses, allied health care professionals and administrative staff to support the delivery of effective clinical services.
Main duties of the job- Candidates should have prior experience in phlebotomy and have appropriate certification in performing blood sampling
- Hours of work are between 7am-12noon Monday-Friday (excluding public holidays)
- Subject to medical clearance including appropriate vaccination as per policy
The Puzey Family Practice GP surgery serves a patient list size of over 20,000 patient in the heart of Rochford and has been delivering medical services for over 35 years.
Job responsibilitiesKey Responsibilities
Perform venepuncture procedures for adults and children (age 10 and above) according to the bookings in your rota.
Collect, label and package samples and record accurate documentation ensuring adherence to protocols.
Input relevant information and data accurately in the required systems: SystmOne and ICE
Ensure all equipment is stock checked and stored appropriately. Assist in ordering and maintaining adequate stocks, report any issues or equipment faults to line manager.
Observe infection control, health and safety procedures and wider practice policies at all times.
Respond professionally and sensitively to patients who may be anxious, distressed or in need of medical assistance.
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with GDPR and practice policies.
Participate in audits and clinical governance activities as required; particularly infection control governance.
Attend and complete required mandatory training, as directed.
Person SpecificationQualifications- Certificate for phlebotomy skills/blood sampling
- Basic IT skills / computer literacy
- Experience working in NHS setting
