The Position
The position will work with the Aboriginal Community Development Officer and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community to identify gaps that exist in the community and to deliver support programs to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Albury Local Government Area. This role will assist in coordinating the implementation of AlburyCity's Reconciliation Action Plan and the celebration of significant dates such as NAIDOC and Reconciliation Weeks, as well as attending local network meetings.

Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide assistance in preparing for and celebrating significant Aboriginal dates and events, whilst working in collaboration with local Aboriginal Elders, organisations and community groups.
  • Assist in creating, implementing, and reviewing strategic documents and delivering on key action areas for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
  • Support the facilitation of the Aboriginal Advisory Committee.
  • Prepare for and participate in internal and external meetings.
  • Assist in undertaking financial activities associated with delivering cultural events and programs including, cost control, budget monitoring, cash handling, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Provide support in the research of funding opportunities for relevant programs.
  • Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training.
  • Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS.
  • Observe appropriate AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding day to day operations including Equal Employment Opportunity policies, AlburyCity's Dress Code and Standards Policy and AlburyCity's Code of Conduct.

Employment Conditions
  • Based on a 35-hour week, with actual days and times being Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm, with an RDO in accordance with AlburyCity's RDO guidelines.
  • This position may involve work outside normal working hours. Additional hours over the standard 35 hours will attract a time in lieu arrangement or payment of overtime rates, as agreed in advance with your supervisor.
  • This position has been designated as an Indigenous position. AlburyCity considers that being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
  • This position requires enrolment in and completion of a Certificate IV Community Services as part of an AlburyCity traineeship. The study component of the course will be primarily completed outside standard working hours of the position.
  • This position is for a temporary period of up to 2 years.
  • This position is a formal traineeship and is regulated by the Apprenticeship & Traineeship Act 2001. Applicants with equivalent industry qualifications are ineligible to apply.
  • This position requires you to wear a compulsory uniform as per AlburyCity's Our People Dress Code Standards.
  • This position involves working in a predominantly indoor environment and using a computer is considered a core component of the role. There may be occasional visits to other work locations. The position requires an average level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake occasional physical activities, including manual handling tasks as part of a normal working environment. A medical declaration will be required to be completed prior to commencement.
  • This position is subject to alcohol and other drug testing.
  • This position is located at the AlburyCity Administration Building, 553 Kiewa Street, Albury with occasional visits to external sites/depots as required.

  • An applicant must not have 50% or more of the identified qualification or a similar or a higher industry qualification completed.

  • Aboriginality is an essential requirement for this position.
  • Good literacy, numeracy and communication skills.
Desirable Criteria
  • Completion of Year 10 or equivalent.
