Overview

Are you a dynamic professional with a talent for executive-level support and strategic coordination? The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) is seeking a Principal Executive Officer to provide high-level, confidential administrative and business support to the CEO and Commissioner. In this pivotal role, you will be at the heart of the organisation's strategic delivery — managing outward-facing responsibilities, coordinating impactful presentations, driving key projects and programs, drafting Board papers, and ensuring seamless follow-through of Board and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) actions.

Please note - QBCC is relocating to Ann Street, Brisbane CBD at the end of 2025.

Key Outcomes And Accountabilities
  • This role provides high level, confidential strategic and operational advice to the CEO and Commissioner of the QBCC in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
  • You will lead the forward planning and preparation of critical briefings, speeches, and documents to ensure the CEO is fully informed for meetings, events, and ministerial briefings.
  • You will collaborate closely with the Senior Executive Coordinator to manage diary commitments and ensure timely briefings, while also liaising with the Ministerial and Executive Services Unit.
  • A core function includes drafting and reviewing papers for Board, Committee, and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) meetings, as well as leading the SLT secretariat function including coordinating agendas, meeting packs, and tracking action items.
  • You will also represent the CEO when required, manage cross functional initiatives, lead special projects, and foster strong relationships across senior stakeholders to achieve strategic outcomes.
Candidate Attributes
  • Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities with a deep understanding of QBCC operations and the building and construction industry.
  • Ability to deliver rigorously considered strategic advice, evaluate complex data, and use a range of systems and tools.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, alongside strong written and verbal communication abilities that influence and motivate diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, the ability to manage competing deadlines, and the autonomy to navigate sensitive or complex matters with discretion and sound judgment.
  • A commitment to risk management, budget oversight, workplace safety, and modelling QBCC's core values.
