About The Role
The Academic Program Coordinator (Social Work and Community Services) is the primary point of academic contact for the academic team within Social Work and Community Services courses. This role is responsible for delivering higher education in their respective course/s, including teaching and assessment design and review, scholarly activities and professional development, benchmarking and moderation, teaching and marking allocation, academic misconduct investigations and upholding academic integrity, student academic support and engagement, and academic progression. The Academic Program Coordinator will also provide administrative and coordination support to the Head of School (HoS) and develop and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth and cohesive operation. This position will be based at our Sydney campus and involves a teaching load of up to 2 subjects per trimester.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Delivery:

  • Manage the operations and delivery of subjects within their respective course/s.
  • Monitor and ensure cross-modal consistency regarding teaching, learning and assessment materials, and course-specific teaching and learning resources.
  • Ensure the quality of teaching, learning and assessment materials available to students and staff via the Learning Management System.
  • Ensure current teaching and assessment resources are available to students and staff before the commencement of each trimester.
  • Coordinate and monitor the quality of teaching within courses, supporting academic staff as required.
  • Conduct teaching, assessment, and student consultation for allocated teaching load.

Academic Management:

  • Support the HoS with the course's regulatory and professional requirements and standards and adherence to relevant policies and processes.
  • Maintain the proper conduct of academic matters within their respective course relating to staff and students, adhering to organisational policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Support recruiting appropriately qualified permanent, sessional and casual academic staff to deliver subjects.
  • Actively contribute to the functions and responsibilities of the Teaching and Learning Committee, Course Advisory Committees, Grades Review Committee, and other relevant academic committees as required.

Course Development & Review:

  • Actively participate and contribute to developing new courses within areas of discipline expertise as required by the Product Development Team, including involvement in Course Advisory Committees.
  • In conjunction with the HoS, manage the course review process as per Ikon's course review requirements.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead, direct and develop the academic team within a course to ensure teaching and learning excellence and high student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the People and Culture Manager to onboard new academic staff.
  • Organise onboarding training for the academic staff.
  • Foster a high-performance culture by providing clear goals and regular feedback.
  • Actively develop a positive and supportive culture within the team.

Industry Engagement:

  • Engage with industry and professional bodies to maintain currency and relevance of courses and teaching and learning pedagogy.
  • Support the HoS to oversee developing and maintaining relationships with suitable external services that can host Ikon students on practicums and work placements.

Education, Experience, And Skills:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) qualification in Social Work, Community Services or a directly related discipline or field.
  • Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Extensive experience in course coordination, academic management and teaching and learning development within a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team, including driving people and culture processes preferred.
  • Demonstrable organisational and planning skills.
  • Knowledge of contemporary developments in the human services field, informed by continuing scholarship and/or practice.
  • Current or recent practising experience within the human services is preferred.
  • Skills in contemporary teaching, learning and assessment principles specific to the discipline or field.
  • Experience in course review leading to improved course design and student outcomes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of requirements associated with professional accreditation standards and regulatory frameworks, especially the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2021.
  • IT literacy, particularly Microsoft Office and any learning management systems.
