About the role

SCHADS Award

Full-time, 38 hours

Initial 12 months fixed term position

Monday 8:30am – 5:06pm, Tuesday–Friday 8:30am - 4:36pm

As a Mental Health Clinician at Kambu Health, you will work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to provide non-clinical counselling and social work services including assessment, case management and care coordination. Some clients may engage in individual therapeutic services, while others may be supported through group-based sessions. The objectives of Kambu Health mental health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals encompass a broad range of goals aimed at promoting mental well-being and recovery by supporting individuals to achieve optimal social and emotional wellbeing, functioning and quality of life, while also promoting social inclusion and recovery.

About the successful applicant

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Key Responsibilities

  • Seek a Social Worker or Counsellor to provide culturally appropriate non-clinical services for clients.
  • Provide culturally appropriate assessment to identify the physical, psychological, and social aspects of a client's social and emotional and other related issues.
  • Conduct one-on-one sessions to explore personal challenges, set recovery goals, and develop coping strategies tailored to individual client needs.
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions that promote peer support, shared experiences, and collaborative learning among clients.
  • Create individualised treatment plans that incorporate the client's goals, preferences, and specific needs, adjusting as necessary to reflect progress and changing circumstances.
  • Apply independent high level non-clinical decision-making skills integrating evidence-based practice to contribute to multidisciplinary complex case management to achieve best practice outcomes.

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Proven experience within a mental health context.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories, and healthcare needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask or shift focus and reprioritise tasks as required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
  • Possess well-developed communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively with a wide variety of stakeholders in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Current Working with Children Check – Blue Card
  • Current Open Driver's Licence
  • Relevant tertiary qualification such as Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or a related field.
