Overview

Seeking a Research Assistant fluent in both written and spoken Swahili who holds a bachelor's degree in health sciences with strong knowledge of, and deep connections to, sub-Saharan African communities to support national studies.

Based at La Trobe University's Melbourne (Bundoora) campus. Fixed term, 6 months from commencement with the possibility of extension. Higher Education Officer (4) Professional Salary Band. Part-time employment.

About the position

The Research Assistant will support the national studies "MindCare" and "MindCare4Women," funded by MRFF and The Department of Health and Ageing. These studies focus on reducing dementia risk in culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.

Key responsibilities will include assisting the Principal Investigator and Project Manager with a variety of tasks, such as preparing ethics amendments and governance documents, supporting literature reviews, organising co-design workshops, aiding recruitment efforts, translating materials into Swahili for sub-Saharan communities, and collecting both qualitative and quantitative data.

A deep understanding of Sub-Saharan culture is essential; therefore, an individual with a Sub-Saharan background is preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Principal Investigator and Project Manager with ethics amendments and governance documents

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in health sciences
  • Fluent in both written and spoken Swahili
  • Strong knowledge of sub-Saharan African communities and networks
  • Ability to translate materials into Swahili
