A brand-new opportunity has emerged to shape the strategic direction of research within one of Australia's leading universities. As the Associate Director for the new Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences' (HMBS) Research Office , you will play a pivotal role in creating a high-performing research environment that drives growth in funding, knowledge translation, and community impact. This is your chance to lead a talented team delivering researcher development, strategic initiatives, and expert support across all campuses , all while influencing the future of research at scale.

In this role, you'll be a trusted advisor to the Associate Dean (Research), working closely with senior leaders to design and implement strategies that elevate research performance and unlock new opportunities. You'll oversee the delivery of seamless, client-focused research services, champion continuous improvement, and foster collaboration across teams and functions. With strong partnerships and a commitment to innovation, you'll help position our new Faculty as a national leader in research excellence, impact, and engagement.

About You

The ideal candidate will bring significant leadership experience in managing research centres or research administration within a university, government, or industry setting. You'll have strong project management skills, with the ability to work under pressure, quickly absorb complex information, and apply it to drive organisational success. A solid understanding of Australian granting agencies, international funding opportunities, and the policy frameworks shaping tertiary education and research is essential.

You'll be a proven leader of high-performing teams, committed to fostering a culture of excellence, inclusion, and alignment with UQ's values. Your strong interpersonal and communication skills will support effective stakeholder engagement and negotiation, while your experience in managing organisational change will be key to driving strategic initiatives and enhancing business performance. Broad awareness of current issues in the Australian higher education sector, particularly around research quality, will further strengthen your impact in this role.
