This role contributes to the sustainable governance & conservation through:

  • Strategic planning and policy implementation across QPWS&P-managed lands.
  • Supporting the administration of permits, leases, & authorities under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and Forestry Act 1959.
  • Providing technical research & drafting correspondence, including ministerial briefings, to support informed decision-making.
  • Negotiating tenure matters, such as revocations, acquisitions, & trusteeships, & assessing development proposals impacting parks.
  • Engaging with government departments & land managers on strategic estate & tenure issues.
  • Advising on Native Title ensuring compliance with legislative requirement.

The successful candidate will require strong attention to detail, strategic thinking, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The Ranger role within the Southeast Queensland Region of Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service and Partnerships (QPWS&P), within the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation, is a strategic and conservation-focused position.


We are seeking applications from suitable candidates passionate about estate management initiatives that support the sustainable governance of Queensland's parks and forests. The role reports to the Senior Ranger Estate Management to provide updates on estate and tenure management, including permit administration, development assessments, and Native Title processes. You will break down legislative and policy requirements, such as those under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and Forestry Act 1959, to support informed decision-making.


The role prepares detailed correspondence, including ministerial briefings, and assists in strategic planning for tenure matters like revocations, acquisitions, and trusteeships. You will also monitor regional activities to ensure compliance with legislative and policy frameworks, identifying opportunities for improved conservation outcomes.


The role uses departmental systems, and communication portals to coordinate stakeholder engagement, record-keeping, and reporting within tight timeframes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel, is essential to streamline data management, draft reports, and present information to diverse stakeholders, including Traditional Owners, government departments, and community groups.

  • High-level writing skills for drafting correspondence, briefings, and reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, for data management and reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address complex estate and tenure issues.
