NSW Health Pathology are looking for a talented Technical Officer to join our Molecular Medicine Department. Based at John Hunter Hospital, we are looking for highly motivated team players

The NSW Health Pathology Molecular Medicine Department is located a short drive from Newcastle, on the John Hunter Hospital Campus, with beautiful surroundings and outdoor areas. What You'll Be Doing

The Molecular Medicine Department performs genomic testing on constitutional / germline, prenatal, haematological and solid tumour samples. This position will require you to work in a team environment to assist with the delivery of a range of Molecular and Cytogenomic Pathology services. In this role, you will contribute to Genetic Pathology services which utilise techniques such as : Real-time PCR, Sanger sequencing, karyotyping, microarrays and Massive Parallel Sequencing. You will perform a range of laboratory investigations and tests (manual and automated) and technical tasks by applying established methods and procedures, as directed. You will undertake other laboratory duties including preparation of materials and the maintenance of equipment in line with established laboratory processes, procedures and protocols.

Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operationsDemonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services within a discipline relevant to the department, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality SystemsAbility to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlinesDemonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectationsCustomer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers and patients as well as clinical laboratory staffDisplay initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environmentCommitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activitiesDemonstrated knowledge and / or experience in Genetic Pathology services using techniques such as Real-time PCR, karyotyping, microarrays, Sanger sequencing and Massive Parallel Sequencing.
