About Us

At Australian Mentoring Services (AMS), we're not just an organisation – we're a movement Guided by our core values, we are committed to empowering people with psychosocial disabilities, Autism, Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), mental health conditions, and complex behaviours. Our mission is to help individuals build the skills and confidence they need to achieve their goals and live independently. We focus on community integration, goal achievement, and reconnecting individuals with their culture and families.

About Your Role

As a Mentor at AMS, you'll be a game-changer—providing personalised support and acting as a social role model to help participants enhance their independence. You will empower individuals by assisting them with daily living skills, social activities, and pathways to education and employment.

You'll work both independently and within a vibrant team environment, always respecting the rights, choices, and self-determination of the people you support. We are looking for Permanent Part-Time Mentors in Wollongong, Campbelltown, Liverpool, and Parramatta.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing specialised support to participants with Autism, ABI, mental health conditions, and complex behaviours in AMS-operated accommodations, their homes, and the community.
  • Offering unconditional positive regard and fostering a safe, supportive environment.
  • Assisting participants in building essential life skills, such as cooking, cleaning, meal planning, and budgeting.
  • Engaging in social and recreational activities to help develop meaningful relationships and social networks.
  • Implementing Individual Support Plans and Behaviour Support Plans tailored to each participant's needs.
  • Flexibility to work within a 24/7 rotating roster, including overnight shifts and weekends. (Shifts are 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, 10pm -6am)

About You

You are empathetic, non-judgemental, and resilient—a true catalyst for change. With experience in Mental Health, Disability, Youth Work, or a related field, you understand the unique challenges our participants face. You celebrate every small success and have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution and mediation.

Why Join AMS?
  • Employee Wellbeing: Free, confidential counselling through our Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Make a Real Impact: Help individuals develop life skills, gain independence, and connect with their communities.
  • Diverse & Inclusive Workplace: AMS is committed to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), embracing a workforce that reflects the people we support.
