Role overview:

  1. Provide client focused, community oriented, and sensitive support and services to adults experiencing a mental illness living in supported residential accommodation
  2. Assist clients to maintain key organisational and other relationships, which facilitate independent living
  3. Increase access and equity for clients within a "collaborative recovery model of psychosocial rehabilitation"
  4. Assist clients with mental illness to improve daily living skills
  5. Encourage clients to practice personal hygiene and educate on healthy living habits
  6. Encourage clients to assist in daily household tasks
  7. Mentor clients in building productive relationships and using effective conflict resolution strategies

Requirements:

  1. Minimum of Cert IV in mental health or a community services related discipline (ideally a completed diploma or Bachelors)
  2. Demonstrated effective listening, empathy and communication skills
  3. Experience in working with people experiencing mental illness
  4. Ability to think and act calmly and sensitively with distressed people
  5. Understanding of the principles of duty of care, rights to privacy and confidentiality
  6. Ability to help program participants link in with other relevant community resources and to promote the rights, responsibilities and recovery of program participants
  7. Demonstrated ability to work with families, carers, government agencies and community services
  8. Willingness to abide by the Disability Services Acts and Standards and Work Health & Safety Act
  9. Competence with Microsoft Office
  10. Must be available for overnight shifts
  11. Must be available to work a rotating 24/7 roster
  12. Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a Blue Card for paid employment
  13. Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance for paid employment
  14. Current driver's license
