Sydney, New South Wales, Australia at Full time

Better and fairer care. Always.

St Vincent's has been a leader in Australia's health and aged care landscape for more than 165 years. Since our founders, the Sisters of Charity, opened our first hospital in 1857, our services and nearly 30,000 people have been behind some of Australia's most important medical breakthroughs. We are a microcosm of Australia's health and aged care system and are uniquely positioned to lead and respond to our rapidly changing environment.

We are looking for a special kind of person - a St Vincent's kind of person. Someone who puts excellence, compassion, connection and caring for other people at the heart of everything they do.

As the Head of Networks & Communications, you will drive the strategic direction and operational excellence of our enterprise network. Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer, you will be responsible for shaping the future state of St Vincent's connectivity and communications, ensuring our platforms are secure, reliable, and scalable to support our life-critical health and aged care environments. You will lead a high-performing team of network and communications specialists, driving innovation and best practices across the organisation.

This role will have a voice and real impact in a strategic whole of business technology implementation and modernisation. A career defining opportunity to be part of a change that will save and improve lives.

This is a Permanent Full-Time position based in any of our Group Head Offices in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne on a hybrid working arrangement - 3 days a week in office and 2 days working from home. In this role, there will be a requirement to work on-call or after hours as needed and travel may be required.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Lead the development and execution of the St Vincent's network and unified communications strategy, ensuring alignment with our digital strategy and business objectives
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and management of scalable, secure, and resilient network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi), voice, video, and collaboration platforms
  • Drive the adoption of modern technologies, including SD-WAN, zero-trust network access, and network automation to enhance efficiency and security
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of network and communications specialists
  • Establish robust governance frameworks and ensure high availability and performance of critical network and communication systems through proactive monitoring and disaster recovery planning
  • Manage the network and communications services budget, optimising spend and ensuring cost-effective utilisation of resources
Things that work for us:
  • Extensive experience in a senior leadership role managing large-scale enterprise network and communications operations, preferably within a large, complex organisation
  • Deep expertise in network infrastructure (Cisco, Meraki, Aruba), unified communications (Microsoft Teams, Cisco Collaboration), and related security technologies
  • Proven track record of successfully leading major network transformation and upgrade initiatives such as network modernisation, contact centre uplift, and enterprise voice transition. You're adept at modernising and scaling digital foundations to support clinical safety, cyber resilience, and operational performance
  • Strong understanding of IT security best practices, governance, and compliance frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing technical teams and to provide hands-on leadership during major incidents and outages
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with a proven ability to influence at all levels. You are a domain expert, strategic thinker, and operational leader with end-to-end accountability for the stability, security, and strategic evolution of Tier 0 network services
  • Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field and relevant professional certifications (e.g., CCIE, CCNP, Microsoft Teams Administrator)
Things that work for you:
  • Ability to visibly see your impact on the business and its service
  • Competitive salary packaging options
  • Discounted private health insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program for staff and their families
  • Access to the Fitness Passport (FP)
At St Vincent's we value inclusivity and diversity and acknowledge the importance of creating a work environment that is welcoming, safe, fair and impartial and invites people from all backgrounds to join us.
