Job overviewAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a SCPHN School Nurse to join our team in Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board as School Nurse Team Leader.
The purpose of this post is to support the Senior Nurse for School Nursing by providing strong, visible and compassionate leadership, and clinical expertise to the School Nursing team.
Working autonomously to operationally manage a defined group of staff. We are looking for an individual who has a broad knowledge of School Nursing practice and a clear vision of best practice, who comes with an innovative and can-do attitude to ensure a one team approach to service delivery.
This role is required to ensure the planning, implementation and delivery of the Healthy Child Wales Programme 2 (HCWP2) by the School Nursing team is underpinned by the appropriate governance and quality assurance, which aligns to local and national strategic priorities and health board values and behaviours.
Main duties of the jobMain duties of the team leader role include some of the following:
- Maintains clinical credibility by providing specialist advice and role modelling to the school nursing team.
- This post holder is required to be a skilled and creative practitioner, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery through demand and capacity management and required caseload supervision.
- The effective day to day leadership and management of staff to ensure the delivery of a quality assured school nursing service, using a one team approach.
- The post holder will proactively identify gaps in service delivery and work in collaboration with the School Nursing team, health board colleagues and external stakeholders to develop School Nursing initiative and programmes.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person specificationQualifications and knowledge- Registered SCPHN School Nurse
- Postgraduate level study or equivalent and relevant experience, skills and knowledge.
- Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the public health agenda for school aged children and the landscape of School Nursing in Wales.
- Comprehensive knowledge and skills of IT.
- Working towards professional development programmes at Master's level.
- Demonstrates clinical competence
- Evidence of influencing, motivating and negotiating with others to achieve change in relation to service delivery.
- A high level of interpersonal and communication skills.
- Able to demonstrate ability to articulate at a senior level.
- Ability to identify gaps in service delivery and understand the governance and quality agendas.
- Self-management/motivational skills.
- Ability to network with health colleagues and stakeholders.
- Able to apply diplomacy and emotional intelligence.
- Confidence to challenge poor practice and ability to address difficult issues.
