Secondary Classroom Teacher (Science)

We seek a passionate educator with experience in Science, capable of teaching up to Stage 6 Physics or Chemistry.

Position Summary

The Science Classroom Teacher will collaborate with staff to demonstrate thorough curriculum knowledge, effective planning, teaching, assessment, professional development, and promote the College's vision and mission.

Reports to : Head of Faculty.

Status and Hours : Full Time - Permanent position.

Student supervision hours are 8 am – 3.30 pm, with expectations of additional hours for meetings and events.

Full Time Equivalent (FTE): 1.0.

Commencement Date : Term 1, 2026.

Dress Code : Staff are required to dress professionally in line with an independent school.

Major Responsibilities

The role requires a caring, approachable educator who can encourage and nurture students. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Setting clear teaching objectives and assessment methods.
• Establishing appropriate academic and behavioral expectations.
• Participating in goal setting, coaching, and pedagogy improvement initiatives.
• Promoting student wellbeing and progress.
• Providing constructive feedback to foster growth.
• Engaging in co-curricular activities.
• Modeling Christian values and caring for students' spiritual welfare.
• Collaborating to uphold the College's core values: courage, curiosity, craftsmanship, collaboration, and compassion.

Professional and Personal Attributes

The teacher must build effective relationships and demonstrate:

• Active Christian faith and church involvement.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications and NESA accreditation.
• Knowledge of current syllabuses and engaging teaching strategies.
• Understanding of assessment for learning.
• Proficiency with educational technology.
• Commitment to student wellbeing.
• Contribution to co-curricular life.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and pursue ongoing professional development.

Desirable Criteria

• Familiarity with Growth Mindset, Habits of Mind, and Visible Thinking approaches.
• Experience with restorative practices within wellbeing frameworks.
• Ability to teach Stage 6 Physics or Chemistry is highly desirable.

Salary: As per the Independent Schools (Teachers) Agreement 2025 or future approved agreement.
