About This Job

Lithgow High School is a comprehensive public high school, located on the eastern boundary of the Lithgow Network, on the Western slopes of the Blue Mountains and the gateway to the Central West. The student population of approximately 682 is reflective of an evolving and diverse community. We have a strong representation of First Nations students, approximately 26% of the school, and a 10% growing Multicultural and Language Background Other Than English component.

Our school is nestled in a heritage listed area with important links of historical significance. We have a strong culture of performing arts, sporting, academic, and community links, and our students participate in a wide range of learning experiences in the pursuit of their personal excellence.

The Special Education Unit is comprised of 12 classes, themed and strongly supported by the DP Inclusion and Support, and we also have our award-winning Wellbeing Centre, and unique Wellbeing Hub meeting the needs of all our students.

Lithgow High School is currently undergoing significant executive restructuring, curriculum redesign, and cohort redevelopment. We are an identified HPGE Partner School with enrichment streaming, and we are piloting many initiatives in STE(A)M and vocational FutureSkills HSC pathways.

Our teaching philosophy is future-focused, centred on teaching the content through skills development and putting our students first. This is a pivotal and exciting time to join our school community.

Specific Selection Criteria
  • Approval to teach: CHI - Chinese (Mandarin) - Secondary and/or JAP - Japanese - Secondary.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver and lead implementation of quality, differentiated language programs, inclusive of First Nations, Language Background Other Than English and High Performance & Gifted Education students.
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to build a new language program focused on developing a positive culture of language learning in the classroom, across the school and within the wider school community.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive working relationships with students, staff and community stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to implement effective classroom management skills and wellbeing practices, creating an engaging, inclusive learning environment that fosters high expectations and student success.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Applicants seeking either permanent full time or permanent part time employment are encouraged to apply for this position. If the recommended applicant is seeking permanent part time employment (FTE from 0.1 to 0.9 inclusive), they will be offered an appointment at their desired FTE. Applicants on the eligibility list will be offered the remaining FTE but are not obliged to accept. Further information can be found on the merit selection webpage.

Successful applicants may be entitled to a Recruitment Bonus of $20,000 (Conditions Apply). The Recruitment Bonus will be paid on a pro rata basis for permanent part-time teachers and executive staff. The maximum recruitment bonus available for a position is $20,000, including any job share arrangements.

A Relocation Support Payment of $5,000 up to $8,000 will be available for eligible applicants.
