The Principal Assessment Officer coordinates risk assessment, triage, and the assessment of complaints and other matters to ensure activities comply with the Office of the Health Ombudsman's (OHO) policies, procedures, and legislative requirements as set out in the Health Ombudsman Act 2013.

The role also manages matters referred from assessment to other entities, including reviewing reports received at the finalisation of the referral to ensure appropriate resolution.

In This Role You Will

  1. Lead and coordinate the assessment team to meet statutory and organisational performance indicators for timeliness and quality, including managing matters related to corrupt conduct, public interest disclosures, and human rights complaints in accordance with relevant legislation.
  2. Coordinate and provide technical guidance for the case management process of high-volume cases, ensuring compliance with records management policies, data collection, and reporting standards.
  3. Make and document sound administrative assessment decisions regarding complaints and other matters, including whether to take no further action, refer for local resolution, conciliation, investigation, or referral to another entity. Prepare briefing documents for high-risk, serious matters that raise public interest and safety concerns.
  4. Support and supervise senior assessment officers and assessment officers, providing feedback, coaching, and mentoring to foster professional development.
