Overview

Parkes Shire Council is offering Apprentices, Trainees and Cadets opportunities through the Fresh Start for Local Government Grant Funded Program. The program supports highly motivated individuals to gain on-the-job experience and practical knowledge while being paid and working towards a nationally accredited qualification.

This is a great way to kick-start your career in your chosen profession. We are seeking an enthusiastic Civil Engineering Cadet in their penultimate or final year of part-time study to join our team. The role provides practical, hands-on experience while supporting the delivery of a wide range of civil engineering projects, balancing full-time work with part-time study.

About the Cadet Program

About our Cadet, Apprentice and Trainee (CAT) Program 2025: Parkes Shire Council offers cadetship, apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities for highly motivated individuals looking to gain on-the-job experience and practical knowledge while working towards a nationally accredited qualification through a Registered Training Organisation. The CAT Program provides on-the-job training, coaching and mentoring from experienced professionals, with all training and study costs paid for by Council. The programs run from two (2) to eight (8) years in duration, depending on the level of qualification.

About You

Parkes Shire Council is looking for the following skills and qualities:

  • Flexible team player with good communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and use self-initiative
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Good communication, organisational and time management skills
  • Have a genuine interest in the role for which you are applying
Essential Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in or studying a Degree of Engineering (or equivalent) in their penultimate or final year
Licences

You must hold the following:

  • NSW Provisional or Full Driver's Licence
  • SafeWork NSW Construction Induction (White Card)
