Como Secondary College is an Independent Public School catering for students from Year 7 to Year 12. Every student matters at Como. We work to build each student's belief in their own capacity to learn and their understanding of the relationship between effort and success. Our aim is to ensure that every student progresses.
The school is located less than 6 kilometres from the centre of Perth and is close to major transport hubs. This enables our students to easily access and use Perth's major universities, training institutions, cultural attractions and sporting facilities.
Find out more about our school by visiting www.como.wa.edu.au or Schools Online .
The Role
The suitable applicants will form an integral part of the Student Services team, assisting in the day to day running of Student Services, school activities and events and ensuring an effective and responsive service for the school community. The SSO's will provide a wraparound service by working across the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). This includes supporting individuals and groups of students with behavioural, social and emotional needs on a daily basis. It will also involve assisting with the development and running of small group social and emotional learning and wellbeing programs and whole school activities.
The Student Support Officers may assist in the development and introduction of positive school culture activities, systems, intervention strategies and alternative programs that provide a responsive and effective support service for students, families and staff. They may develop and coordinate events and activities for the student body, which aligns to The Como Way. They should supervise our Student Services Triage area, actively participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and case conferences, as appropriate. As such, they will ideally have exceptional interpersonal skills, possess a flexible and reliable approach and can build and maintain strong professional relationships within a team environment.
The suitable applicants should have a friendly, positive and caring attitude and possess the qualities to promote excellence within our school. Ideally, they will also possess attention to detail, the ability to meet deadlines, and be able to work in a fast paced environment with competing demands. The Student Support Officer reports directly to the Program Coordinator – Student Services.
Previous experience working with youth mental health and the delivery of resilience programs would be highly desirable, as well as previous training in Youth Mental Health First Aid, Gatekeeper and Trauma Intervention.
