About Vision Super

At Vision Super, we've been entrusted with Australians' retirement savings for over 75 years. As an industry super fund, we focus on delivering exceptional outcomes for our members' futures. Our culture is built around collaboration, support, and innovation.

About the role

Support the Head of Communications and the executive team to produce clear, accurate and compelling communications for Board materials, external presentations, and internal channels, and assist with administration and planning for the comms function. The role would suit a recent graduate or early-career professional with excellent writing, strong basic maths, meticulous attention to detail and the confidence to work directly with senior leaders. The role is being advertised as full-time, however part-time applications will also be considered.

Key responsibilities

This isn't a definitive list – all our position descriptions include the phrase "other duties as required" But among other work you will help with:

  • Drafting, editing and formatting a variety of materials including board papers, presentations, intranet posts, emails, website content and newsletters.
  • Creating slide decks, speaking notes and briefing packs; checking numbers, charts and references.
  • Version control and deadline management across multiple contributors.
  • Editing for clarity, tone, in-house style, plain English and accessibility.
  • Sense-checking numbers (fees, net returns, member growth) and simple tables.
  • Researching and source compilation to support claims in materials.
  • This is a junior role, but you will need to be comfortable working directly with the CEO and executive team on drafts and revisions, and challenging them if you think there are errors, gaps or risks
  • Tracking what needs to be done, the approvals workflow and coordination.
About you

You don't need to know everything – or even anything – about superannuation. We're looking for someone who has really good writing skills – and who speaks up, challenges ideas and asks questions, thinks critically and analytically, has values that fit our ethos, and wants to learn.

  • You have exceptional writing skills – in plain English
  • You can spot a spelling mistake or misplaced comma at a hundred paces.
  • You've been known to have heated debates about the ongoing role of the Oxford comma, kerning, or the use of apostrophes.
  • But despite your very strong language skills, you also have a solid grasp of basic maths. Superannuation isn't calculus but you need to be able to spot numerical inconsistencies, be comfortable with percentages, basis points, averages, creating simple charts in Excel, etc.
  • People ask you questions when they can't figure out how to do something in a Word document – or at least you're not unfamiliar with applying styles and you don't use the enter key to format documents – and you've got basic skills across the rest of the Office suite. Good PowerPoint skills would be a definite bonus.
  • You're organised and thorough – you turn up on time, meet deadlines and keep track of versions of documents.
  • Most importantly, you're robust, composed and have a sense of humour – you'd be comfortable working with senior leaders and pushing back constructively when something is unclear or you think it's incorrect or risky, you take feedback well, share credit and you know you're not always right.
  • You're aligned with our values as an industry super fund – fairness is important to you, you have respect for workers and communities, and you want to work in a field that's helping people.
  • You ask good questions, learn fast and will have ideas to improve the process.
  • Experience working or volunteering in a community-based organisation would be a bonus.
Education
  • Degree in a humanities or social sciences field (eg English, history, philosophy, politics, communications, economics, public policy). If you don't have that, but do have something else on your CV you believe demonstrates you've got critical thinking skills and can research and synthesise complex information, we're willing to consider alternatives.
How to Apply

To apply for this role, please send your resume, a one-page sample of your writing on any topic (plain English please) and (optionally) a 3-5 slide presentation on a topic you're passionate about to hr@visionsuper.com.au.

We warmly welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, experiences, and identities. We celebrate diversity and are dedicated to fostering an inclusive, supportive environment where everyone can thrive.

Please note: To be considered for this, applicants must have Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency.
