The Director, Operations Serious Matters is responsible for the effective and efficient management of serious and high-risk matters, as well as contributing to cross-functional service delivery. This includes the leadership and management of the Monitoring and Compliance Team and Immediate Action Team.

The Immediate Action Team is responsible for assessing complaints that raise a significant issue of public health or safety or public interest considerations and making recommendations to the Health Ombudsman regarding immediate action and public statements under the Health Ombudsman Act 2013.

In This Role You Will

  • Lead and manage the tracking of serious and high-risk matters and the implementation of cross-functional approaches across the OHO which reflect legislative principles, policies and the OHO's objectives.
  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations and activities of the Immediate Action and Monitoring and Compliance teams, ensuring they achieve the OHO's paramount objective of protecting the health and safety of the public.
  • Provide high-level advice to the Health Ombudsman in relation to serious and high-risk matters, including decisions relating to immediate action and public statements, which appropriately consider administrative law principles, legislative requirements, risk-management factors, relevant precedent, and demonstrate sound decision-making.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams within the OHO to continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the compliance, monitoring, immediate action and cross-functional approaches.
  • Support the Executive Director in providing strategic advice to the Health Ombudsman and support the implementation of the office's strategic direction through successfully managing the immediate action team, monitoring and compliance team and cross-functional approaches.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures and training to provide comprehensive guidance to support the immediate action team, monitoring and compliance team and cross-functional teams using best practice methods in accordance with OHO Policy and Procedure Framework.
