Overview

Experience: 5–8 years (with hands-on Cognos Framework Manager and report migration experience). Technology Stack: IBM Cognos Analytics 11.2, Framework Manager, SQL, Databricks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain Cognos packages using Framework Manager 11.2.
  • Define joins, relationships, and business keys between consumption entities.
  • Optimise the model to ensure performance and accuracy for reporting users.
  • Report Migration & Maintenance
  • Migrate and validate Cognos reports (scheduled and ad-hoc) from Teradata to Databricks.
  • Ensure queries embedded within Cognos reports are updated and tested against the new Databricks backend.
  • Resolve issues related to joins, key changes, or data mismatches during migration.
  • SQL & Query Validation
  • Review and optimise SQL generated by Cognos to ensure efficiency on Databricks.
  • Troubleshoot and debug report execution issues caused by query or model changes.
  • Work closely with Data Engineers and BI Operations to validate migrated entities.
  • Provide support to business users in accessing data via ad-hoc queries and reports.
  • Document model changes, report migration steps, and provide knowledge transfer.
  • Walk through the users in any changes done on Cognos due to Report migration.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience with IBM Cognos Analytics 11.2 (mandatory).
  • Hands-on expertise with Framework Manager (building and maintaining packages, joins, relationships, security filters).
  • Strong SQL skills, with the ability to analyse, modify, and optimise queries generated by Cognos.
  • Experience in report migration projects (preferably Teradata → Databricks or similar cloud data platforms).
  • Ability to handle both scheduled reporting and ad-hoc query support in Cognos.
  • Solid understanding of data modelling concepts, star/snowflake schemas, and consumption-layer design.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills in BI/reporting environments.
