The role

Applications are currently invited from experienced and/or aspirational leaders to join our Secondary School teaching and learning team in the position of Head of Science Faculty, Years 7-12.

Commencing January 2026, you will be responsible for ensuring an ongoing approach to teaching a knowledge-rich Science curriculum in line with the principles of the science of learning (in particular, core principles of instruction and cognitive load theory). Guided by the wider school academic strategy, you will be leading a high-performing team to ensure the best learning outcomes for all boys at BGS. As a Head of Faculty, you will ensure a focus on strategic goals in regard to student achievement, teacher engagement and performance.

In addition to the role of Head of Faculty, you will also have a teaching load commensurate with the position.

Applications are welcome from teachers of any Science discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Psychology). Note: an ongoing teaching contract will be offered to the successful applicant. The position of responsibility will be offered on a tenured basis for four years in accordance with our policy.

Key Result Areas

This broad leadership position includes, but is not limited to, the following key responsibilities:

• Oversee the quality of instruction for the faculty, with a focus on the science of learning and Rosenshine's Principles of Instruction.
• Ensure that assessments are valid, authentic and appropriately reported. This includes both summative and formative assessment, while supporting staff to teach responsively as misconceptions or gaps in knowledge are identified.
• Lead and manage staff within the faculty, including chairing regular team meetings, conducting classroom visits, overseeing staff administration, managing interpersonal issues, and collaborating with curriculum leaders to address parent concerns and performance issues.
• Ensure curriculum documentation, based on the Understanding by Design framework, is complete and accurate.
• Manage the physical resources for the faculty, including budgets, classroom equipment, capital forecasts, technology requirements and the provision of appropriate resources.
