The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Strategy Manager, Impact to integrate impact and strategic design methodologies into CSIRO's research. As the Strategy Manager, you will develop and implement strategies for the incorporation of impact, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL), and strategic design methodologies into the organisation's institutional design and research portfolio arrangements. You will facilitate workshops to design and plan innovative, impact-driven research initiatives and lead change management processes to promote best-practice impact-focused approaches. Drawing on your ability to foster effective relationships, you will collaborate with experts across the organisation such as CSIRO researchers and mentor junior staff.

Your duties will include:
  • Building and implementing strategies and methodologies for the incorporation of impact, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL), and strategic design methodologies.
  • Developing and facilitating workshops and design sprints to help define impact-driven research problems and plan new research programs.
  • Designing and deploying change management processes to ensure best practice impact and design approaches are adopted.
  • Engaging with internal and external practitioners in impact, MEL, and strategic design.
  • Working with subject-matter experts to continuously improve organisational approaches to impact planning, MEL, and program design.
  • Building working relationships and forming communities of practice across the organisation.
  • Advocating for impact and design-led approaches internally and in the national innovation system.
  • Building organisational impact capacity and maturity.
To be considered you will need:
  • Relevant degree with demonstrated achievement in senior advisory and managerial roles in impact planning.
  • Extensive experience in applying impact, strategic design, MEL, and change management methodologies.
  • Experience in establishing and leading cooperative, regionally dispersed teams.
  • A history of professional and respectful behaviours aligned to CSIRO values.
  • Proven ability to foster effective relationships and ensure alignment between participants and CSIRO's objectives.
  • Superior interpersonal, coaching, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated history of managing complex problems in ambiguous situations.
  • A record of innovation and creativity in projects.
  • Experience in successful project management, including planning and reporting.
