Director Independent Legal Assistance and Review Service (ILARS)Independent Review Office (IRO) | Band 1 Executive Role | Salary Package starting from $247,225 We're on the lookout for a dynamic and values-driven legal leader to join IRO's Executive Leadership Team as Director ILARS – a pivotal statutory role that administers independent legal assistance for workers navigating the NSW workers compensation system.
This is a chance to lead a high-performing team of legal professionals delivering a program that provides equitable access to quality legal representation so that people who have disputes with their insurers are supported to uphold their rights to claims and entitlements under workers compensation law.

Passionate about public service and supporting the rights of individuals, while having a systems impact to improve the sustainability and outcomes of the workers compensation system in NSW.
Experienced in legal program design and delivery – and comfortable driving change and modernisation to deliver value for money and customer-focused services.
A strong contributor to our Executive Leadership Team, helping shape whole-of-organisation direction and strategy.
We're after someone with energy, creativity and emotional intelligence – someone who thrives in a values-led environment, balances analytical thinking with empathy, and understands how to deliver in a government or statutory context.
Legal qualifications and a current Australian practicing certificate are required.
Knowledge of workers' compensation legislation is an advantage.

About the IROThe Independent Review Office (IRO) is an independent statutory office that supports people injured at work by overseeing the workers compensation system in NSW.
Through our ILARS program, we fund independent legal assistance for workers, and we monitor insurer performance and complaint handling to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability across the scheme.
We are a small, high-impact office committed to integrity, service, and the rights of injured people in NSW.
