In this role, you'll:
Be involved in upgrading the Operational Management and Control System for three tunnels in Northern NSW and will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of three new tunnels as part of the new Coffs Harbour Bypass project.
You will provide systems engineering and assurance functions for the branch and broader branch strategic delivery portfolio.
You will maintain a holistic view of business and technology systems and act as a trusted expert who will drive consistent systems engineering and assurance methodologies and practices across the Transport cluster.

You'll adhere to and maintain a rigorous systems engineering governance framework that applies best practices and industry-leading methodologies and supports projects in delivering outcomes that are safe, reliable and fit for their intended purpose.
This hybrid role can be located in Tweed Heads or Ballina.
There will be overnight travel involved, up to 4- 5 days per month.

About you
We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer with a strong background in the design, delivery, maintenance and implementation of tunnel control systems to support the Tunnel System Engineering team.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with system integration, smart network technologies, ITS, CCTV and Telecommunication Networks and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).

An understanding of system architecture is essential, including the ability to assess and implement tunnel systems where appropriate, while recognizing when such configurations may not be necessary for efficient operations.
The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in analysing system faults, deploying and maintaining complex multi-system environments, specifically SCADA and plant control systems - ensuring seamless interoperability, secure communication, and high system availability.

This role requires a strategic thinker capable of delivering scalable, secure, and resilient solutions across diverse operational landscapes.
You will also need:

• A four-year engineering degree from an Australian University or equivalent overseas qualifications
• A valid Australian motor vehicle driver's license and be willing to work outside regular working hours and travel interstate on occasion.
