About the position The School of Nursing and Midwifery undertakes a wide range of teaching and research programs in Nursing, Midwifery, Maternal, Family and Child Health, Ageing and Aged Care, Health Service Design, Health and Wellbeing, Time Critical Nursing, Mental Health, and Workforce.
These interconnected programs form Centres of Excellence within our clinical networks and Research Centres.
The school offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and higher degree research programs, with Clinical Schools based at Alfred Health, Austin Health, Northern Health, and Melbourne Health networks.
These enable students to access expert clinicians, participate in clinically relevant research, and undertake clinical practice.
The Bachelor of Nursing students are based at a clinical school in their third year, with placements at Women's and Mercy Hospitals.
The school has a strong reputation in nursing and midwifery research and education, with opportunities for innovations like simulation and clinician-facilitated supervision.
The school seeks a Level C academic with experience in course coordination, expertise in contemporary nursing practice, and a track record in undergraduate and postgraduate education.
The successful candidate will contribute to the research reputation of the discipline, engage with hospital partners, and publish in leading journals.
Duties include: Leading course coordination and curriculum design.
Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses using innovative methodologies.
Mentoring staff in curriculum development and delivery.
Conducting high-impact research and publishing.
Building a strong research culture within La Trobe.
Supervising HDR, honours, and postgraduate students.
Securing research funding.
Engaging in knowledge transfer locally and nationally.
Representing the discipline externally.
Managing administrative functions related to the role.
Skills and experience required: Ph D or equivalent accreditation.
Proven effectiveness in curriculum development and teaching excellence.
Leadership experience at course or research group level.
Supervision of students at various levels.
Strong research publication record.
Excellent communication skills.
Teamwork and staff management experience.
Desirable: Recent clinical experience in adult settings.
Graduate Certificate in Higher Education or equivalent.
