Position title: Project Officer (Artefact Collection)LCA Department: Lutheran Archives Reports to: Collections Archivist, Lutheran Archives Employment Type: Casual Duration: 13 weeks (0.6 FTE) (Flexible timelines and arrangements may be accommodated)Remuneration: $40.62 - $41.45 + superannuation and casual loading (SCHADS Award Level 3)About Lutheran Archives Lutheran Archives, based in Bowden, Adelaide, is the archive for the Lutheran Church of Australia and New Zealand (LCANZ), holding the records of the congregations, districts, departments and people of the church.
Records are from all over Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, and wherever the church has had a ministry.
Records date to the formation of the church in Australia in 1838 and include earlier items from Prussia prior to the Australian and New Zealand migrations.
Early records are in German script.
Record formats include manuscripts, published works, photographs, audiovisual, textiles and objects.
The mission of Lutheran Archives is to ensure the records of the LCANZ are available for the church and wider community to access, remember and reflect, and to share today and for generations to come.
We do this through arrangement and description, indexing, translation, digitisation and through research facilities and other outreach programs.
Researchers range from academics, linguists and family historians to novelists and filmmakers within Australia and overseas.
Find out more about the Lutheran Archives here: Lutheran Archives About the position – Project Officer (Artefact Collection)The Lutheran Archives artefact collection consists of approximately 1500 objects, textiles and framed works.
Objects include large pieces of church furniture; pieces of silverware (trophies, commemorative teaspoons, communion chalices); dolls in national costumes; church items: crosses, candle sticks, as well as cultural and Christian items from missions.
Framed work include handicrafts, paintings (including by Hermannsburg painters), certificates, and photographs.
Textiles include banners, church vestments, pastoral gowns, wedding dresses, baptism gowns, sports uniforms.
The primary role of the Project Officer (Artefact Collection) is to undertake a project to audit and rehouse the artefact collection at Lutheran Archives.
While the artefact collection is already generally accessioned, catalogued and housed, the project will aim to audit and where necessary, undertake object provenance research, reinstate intellectual control, and rehouse.
Key responsibilities Working towards identified goals of the project and reporting to the Collections Archivist, the Project Officer (Artefact Collection) will: Undertake a full audit of the existing artefact collection at Lutheran Archives, using the existing database With the collections archivist, rearrange and rehouse the collection where needed, to archival standards and to maximise preservation and access Identify ICIP issues within the artefact collection Undertake and document any provenance research needed within the artefact collection Assist with determining priorities for conservation and digital preservation Knowledge and Skills: Essential Tertiary qualification in museums, galleries, archives or information management Demonstrated experience in museum or object collection management, with an understanding of collection management standards, principles, contemporary best practise and technical skills Experience working with First Nations material and knowledge of ICIP standards Attention to detail, accuracy, consistency, and high-level technical and research skills Demonstrated knowledge and practice of archiving and/or museum standards, principles and practices Knowledge and Skills: Highly Desirable Basic conservation skills Knowledge of the structure and history of the Lutheran Church of Australia (LCA), or the ability to quickly gain this understanding General terms of appointment Be willing to work in the environment of the Lutheran Church of Australia and actively demonstrate understanding for the needs of the Church Agree to abide by all policies of the LCADemonstrate respect in all activities and relationships, as per the LCA Standards of Ethical Behaviour Observe and comply with the LCA Work, Health & Safety policies and procedures Confidentiality regarding sensitive information is a requirement of the position To apply, please submit your CV and a cover letter (two pages maximum) addressing the essential and highly desirable knowledge and skills as detailed above to lutheran.archives@lca.org.au.
