
Laboratory Technician

The Technician is to provide high quality histology and blood processing services, both to researchers within the St Vincent's Health Innovation Precinct and external collaborators.
THE OPPORTUNITYReporting to the Histopathology & Biospecimen Manager, the Technician will be responsible for processing blood samples and performing general histology duties in a team and collaborative environment.

start / finish times18 weeks paid parental leave for both parents including paid superannuation A range of additional leave types to meet your personal needs including cultural leave, conference leave, community service and study leave Discounted Health Insurance Lifestyle discounts with our community partners WHAT YOU WILL DOThe key responsibilities include: Processing of blood samples collected as part of the biobanks and clinical trials Performing general histology such as Specimen reception, tissue processing and embedding, staining, microtomy, cryosectioning and immunohistochemistry.
The meticulous preparation and labelling of samples Aliquoting and snap freezing of the blood samples Handling and maintenance of lab equipment All general lab duties Strict adherence to Study Protocols Record Keeping Data entry and ensuring its accuracy onto a database Contributing to the writing of standard operating procedures and other manuals Assistance with research projects Assisting other Garvan facilities/labs if required Participating in training team and Precinct staff Working closely and effectively with small teams, planning and prioritising work to meet all commitments.
