We implement a strategically coordinated approach to the cyber security and resilience of all Australians.

About the role : Our Graduate Program offers an exceptional pathway to launch your career in a dynamic and meaningful environment.
The 10-month program includes three rotations and is designed to align with your interests and skills, providing hands-on experience across diverse areas of the Department.
The program includes vocational learning opportunities to build your professional expertise, personalized coaching to support your development, and dedicated support to help you succeed.

Note : If you are found suitable but not offered a graduate position, you may be placed in a merit pool.
The merit pool may be used to fill non-graduate (similar vacancy) positions across various locations within the Department.

Eligibility requirements : You can apply if you : Are an Australian citizen or will be by 18 March 2026 Have completed at least an Australian Qualifications Framework Level 7 qualification (a Bachelor Degree) or higher by 31 December 2026.
Degrees obtained within the last 5 years and recognized by the Australian Qualifications Framework are eligible.
Can obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance or onboarding check as applicable.
We encourage you to complete the Employment Suitability Self-Assessment at help-and-support / departmental-forms / online-forms / essa Obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance at the Negative Vetting 1 level.
If your degree was obtained overseas, it must be recognized by the Department of Education, Skills and Employment.
How to apply : Applications for the 2027 program will open in March 2026.
The selection process is comprehensive and spans multiple stages over several months.
You must meet the required standards at each stage to proceed.
Here's what to expect : Step 1 : Online Application Create an account on our recruitment website to submit your application.
Provide during the application : Personal information Details of your qualifications (including an academic transcript, max 3 MB)A statement verifying recognition of overseas qualifications (max 3 MB)A short statement on why you want to work with us Your resume You will receive an email confirmation after submitting.
You can log in anytime to update your profile details before the closing date.
Step 2 : First Round of Assessments and Interview This includes online assessments of cognitive abilities and skills.
Successful candidates will be invited to a virtual interview to respond to behavioral questions.
Step 3 : Assessment Centre Candidates progressing past the first interview will be invited to a virtual assessment centre to participate in various activities evaluating suitability.
These are typically held mid-year.
Step 4 : Referee Reports Referee reports will provide information about your employment history, qualifications, experience, and role suitability, and clarify any matters from your assessment.
Step 5 : Merit Pool Suitable candidates will be placed in a merit pool.
Not all will receive an offer; wait for a formal offer before resigning from current employment.
Step 6 : Verbal Employment Offer If selected, you will receive a conditional verbal offer dependent on security clearances, including an Employment Suitability Clearance and a Negative Vetting 1 Clearance.
Step 7 : Clearances All employees must undergo security clearance processing before starting.
This includes obtaining necessary clearances.
