About The Role An exciting opportunity to join Merri-bek's Sustainability and Climate branch in a key leadership role.
This position will develop, coordinate and lead projects, programs and partnerships to deliver on the community goals and outcomes within Merri-bek's Climate Emergency Action Plan (2025 – 2030) and associated Zero Carbon Merri-bek (ZCM) 2040 Framework.
The role will collaborate with colleagues to mobilise the community and cross-council staff in acting together for a safe and just climate future.
The position has a specific particular focus on developing and delivering projects and initiatives to rapidly accelerate the community-wide Energy Transition 'towards efficient and 100% renewably powered energy'.
Implementation approaches must be consistent with the principles of the 2040 Framework, including to 'facilitate a just and inclusive transition' and 'boost resilience and liveability'.
Skills And Experience Require To Perform The Role A tertiary qualification in environmental management or science, energy management, renewable energy, sustainability, project or business management or related field, or demonstrated equivalent competencies gained through substantial experience in these or related fields Demonstrated knowledge of climate change, carbon emissions and the energy sector (energy generation, distribution, storage, trading, regulatory barriers), and familiarity with approaches to climate action relevant to the urban and regional context.
Demonstrated experience in managing delivery of strategic environmental programs/ projects, procuring and managing contractors and monitoring / reporting progress to senior stakeholders and the public.
Ability to gain co-operation and assistance from team members, stakeholders, members of the public and other employees in the delivery of broadly defined outcomes and to motivate and develop other employees.
Strong communication skills with excellent written and verbal skills to prepare and deliver materials of a consistently high level.
