THE ROLE The solicitor, Information Sharing and Privacy Law Team, will be required to work with clients across the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (the department) portfolios on a broad range of matters and projects and provide timely and practical information sharing and privacy law advice.
The solicitor will assist in providing expert policy and legal advice, throughout the department and other relevant administrative offices on a range of privacy law, information sharing and public and administrative law issues.
The successful applicant will ideally have experience in providing legal and policy advice, under supervision, within or to government departments, on a variety of privacy and information sharing issues.
The successful applicant will also ideally have experience working with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic) and the Health Records Act 2001(Vic).
Other areas of relevant experience may include, Commonwealth Privacy legislation and regulations, Freedom of Information, the Child Youth and Families Act 2005 (Vic), the Child Information Sharing Scheme and the Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme.
It is expected that the successful applicant will possess well developed statutory interpretation, conceptual, analytical, research and problem-solving skills, combined with a flexible approach to competing demands and communication styles, the ability to take initiative and having a strong client focus.
The Information Sharing and Privacy Law Team strives to provide technically excellent legal advice and representation that is practical, client focused, promotes responsible privacy actions and achieves the policy objectives of the department and ministers.
Accountabilities Include Provide well-reasoned legal advice, briefings, and correspondence on all aspects of privacy law and related information sharing laws.
Collaborate with departmental colleagues to deliver client focused legal services.
Provide responsible and safe outcomes for the variety of clients that the department delivers services to.
