plus 12% SuperannuationJoin us in our mission to promote biodiversity, conserve our valuable ecosystems, and provide engaging attractions that connect people with nature.THIS IS A PERMANENT, FULL-TIME POSITIONTHIS POSITION IS BASED IN KENSINGTONAPPLICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION CLOSE ATMIDDAY ON FRIDAY, 8 AUGUST 2025Ecosystem Health Branch provides the framework for efficient and effective management of invasive species including plant diseases, weeds and pest animals to help conserve natural values on lands managed by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions' (DBCA) Parks and Wildlife Service.
The branch is responsible for the coordination of the Western Shield program, Cane Toad Strategy and Vegetation Health Service diagnostic laboratory as well as providing policy support for the implementation of the Forest Management Plan.We currently have an opportunity for a Manager, Ecosystem Health Branch to join our team.At an advanced professional level, under limited direction and using independent judgement: manages the Ecosystem Health Branch and provides policy advice and develops policy and practices for the management of forest ecosystems and ecosystem health (climate, soil, hydrology, weeds, pest animals and diseases); provides strategic guidance on the development and implementation of the Forest Management Plan; liaises with clients, State and Commonwealth agencies, on related issues as required; and contributes to the development of, and ensures effective resourcing, delivery and reporting of relevant Divisional service priorities.At the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), we have adopted Leadership Expectations which provides a common understanding of the mindsets and expected behaviours required of all our employees and the public sector.
In this role, you will be Leading Leaders to help drive positive change.Selection CriteriaApplicants should address the following four (4) criteria.
These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total.Sound knowledge of issues relevant to the contemporary management of forest ecosystems for a range of values and uses, and management of ecosystem health (climate, soil, hydrology, weeds, pest animals and diseases of natural systems) and substantial experience and effectiveness in developing and implementing related policy and practices.
Demonstrated high level conceptual and analytical skills, which are applied to strategically important projects, harnessing relevant information and using judgement and intelligence in decision making, including setting of priorities.
Demonstrated ability to build productive and effective relationships, within and outside the department, and a strong record of delivering intended results through effective teamwork, resource allocation, project management, and in accessing expertise.
Exhibits a personal commitment to professionalism, probity and professional development and the ability to manage issues and risks appropriately and demonstrate resilience when faced with challenges.
