As Director of Research Capability in the Strategic Advisory Group – Mental Health and Wellbeing Branch, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that evidence and innovation drive meaningful improvements in mental health and wellbeing outcomes for Defence personnel.
Key duties include: Develop, implement, and maintain a strategic framework for knowledge transfer, research application and innovation.
Lead, mentor, and support a multidisciplinary team of researchers and students, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and innovation.
Lead initiatives to translate complex research findings into actionable insights, policies, and innovation.
Promote the adoption of innovative models, technologies, and approaches to mental health and wellbeing support.
Develop partnerships with academic institutions, research organisations, and professional bodies to promote research credibility and facilitate evidence dissemination.
About our Team The Mental Health & Wellbeing (MHW) Branch was established in 2023 to unify and enhance mental health and wellbeing programs, policies, and services across Defence.
The team is a multidisciplinary mix of military and civilian personnel working towards a common goal: improving the mental health and wellbeing of the Defence community.
The Strategic Advisory Group within the MHW Branch is a high-performing team of public health and allied health subject matter experts.
This team provides evidence-based research, insights, and policy guidance to advance Defence's mental health, wellbeing, and suicide prevention system.
Our Ideal Candidate We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with significant experience in a research and innovation environment to provide vision, leadership, and inspiration to drive mental health and wellbeing research and innovation across Defence.
Desirable knowledge, skills, and abilities include: Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to translate and present complex concepts and research, tailor insights for a variety of audiences at all levels and develop high level recommendations and documentation.
Strong understanding of evidence based practices, implementation science, and mental health policy frameworks.
Knowledge of ethical considerations and regulatory frameworks in mental health research and practice.
Knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policy requirements.
Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex projects.
Experience in developing and managing research contracts to ensure the delivery of high quality services, outcomes and outputs.
