Metallurgist Materials Engineer The Role SRG has a career opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Metallurgist / Materials Engineer at our Cameron Park (Newcastle) office in NSW.
This position involves laboratory-based metallurgical assessments, failure investigations, and site work during plant outages to provide metallurgical support alongside our team of engineers, technicians, and inspectors.
Our client base is Australia-wide, offering travel opportunities and exposure to various plants.
Key Responsibilities : Liaising with major industrial clients, planning and conducting metallurgical investigations, failure analysis, and materials consultancy.
Supporting industrial plant outages with metallurgical projects, including material testing and identification.
Assessing the remaining life of high-temperature plant components.
Preparing technical reports with findings and recommendations for asset care, repairs, and materials improvements.
Performing analysis using in-house SEM (training provided).
Providing metallurgical support for weld repairs.
Developing and maintaining client relationships.
Keeping precise technical records per company procedures and standards.
Adhering to safety procedures as outlined in the Safety Manual.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications : Tertiary qualification in metallurgy or materials engineering.
At least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
Knowledge of high-temperature materials and failure mechanisms is preferred.
Ability to provide engineering solutions and asset care advice is highly regarded.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
Good reporting skills.
Customer service and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team.
Project and team management skills.
Experience in failure analysis and life assessment of high-temperature plants is highly regarded but not essential.
Additional skills such as finite element analysis, welding, or NDT qualifications are also advantageous but not mandatory.
