We're a team of trade journalists, designers and strategists who publish a wide range of well-recognised industry titles, including Inside Retail, Inside FMCG, Inside Small Business and Franchise Business.
We're seeking an experienced, driven and energetic Managing Editor to lead our Features & Premium team for a 13-month maternity leave cover period.
This critical role involves overseeing the production of daily online features and quarterly print magazines for Inside Retail and Inside FMCG.
You'll manage our global Features & Premium team – based in Australia, Asia and the US – who are responsible for creating exclusive, in-depth content for our paid subscribers.
You'll report directly to the CEO of Octomedia.
Who are you?You're a seasoned journalist with a proven track record in business news and experience leading editorial teams.
You're a self-motivated, energetic leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and excels at managing multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously.
Your deep understanding of the retail industry is essential, and you genuinely enjoy nurturing and guiding a team to produce exceptional content.
To truly excel in this role, you must possess impeccable editorial judgment, strong organisational skills and outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.
You're an analytical and critical thinker, able to identify key insights and challenge assumptions to ensure all content, especially our premium offerings, is insightful and impactful.
At the same time, your strategic mindset allows you to think beyond individual articles, understanding how content aligns with our broader publication goals and deeply engages our audience.
This is what your job will look like: Lead the planning, editing and production of all premium content, from ideation to publication.
Manage content strategy, including the selection and allocation of compelling stories to global Features & Premium team members.
Ensure all premium content is created and published in a timely, accurate and legally sound manner, adhering to the highest ethical and editorial standards.
Collaborate closely with the Features & Premium team to uphold journalistic integrity and consistency across all our sites.
Oversee recruitment and hiring for the Features & Premium team, managing resources effectively within budget.
Manage budgets for contributors and freelancers, ensuring efficient content creation.
Set clear standards and KPIs for the Features & Premium team, conducting regular performance reviews to foster growth and excellence.
Represent Octomedia at times by hosting news broadcasts, podcasts, videos, or participating in external interviews related to retail content.
Consistently meet all regular and recurring deadlines, demonstrating exceptional project management.
Cultivate a team culture that prioritises evidence-based content decisions.
Drive the creation of multi-channel content that deeply resonates with our users, engaging them on their preferred platforms.
Develop agenda-setting, retail-specific series that are unique to our brand and further solidify our market leadership.
This is what's important for the job Proven experience in online content production; print experience is a significant advantage.
Proven management experience in an editorial setting.
A solid grasp of business news and current affairs, particularly within the retail sector.
Proficiency in using Google Docs and Word Press.
