About the team About the Division and Branch The Chief Operating Officer Division supports the work of the department through the delivery of corporate and business functions spanning human resources, communications, and property management.
Within the Chief Operating Officer Division, the WHS and Wellbeing team operate in the People Branch which supports the department to attract, retain, develop, and ensure the wellbeing of its people.
The WHS and Wellbeing team is responsible for policies, strategies and projects designed to protect and maintain the health and wellbeing of employees.
The team delivers WHS strategy and advice to manage operational hazards, including psychosocial hazards, across the department.
The team also supports the department to achieve compliance with health and safety related legislation, policies, and guidance established by regulatory bodies.

What you will do The Safety and Wellbeing Advisor is responsible for facilitating a high standard of safety management and compliance with standards.
This will involve assisting in the maintenance of the Department's WHS Management System, providing specialist advice and technical support to managers, Health and Safety representatives and staff on WHS matters.
The Safety and Wellbeing Advisor will also display competencies that support and provide assistance with risk management, regulatory engagements, incident investigation, hazard management, audits and stakeholder management.
In line with the Work Level Standards and under limited direction, the APS5 Safety and Wellbeing Advisor will: Assist with compliance of departmental policies and procedures and relevant Commonwealth legislation across WHS and wellbeing.
Assist in the development, implementation and review of WHSMS framework documentation to ensure legislative and regulatory compliance.
Provide sound advice and guidance on best practice WHS and wellbeing to build manager and employee capability and enable sustained and continual improvement across the department.
Assist with incident investigation and risk management activities, including monitoring and analysing WHS data to identify trends, emerging issues and improvement opportunities and report on performance quarterly.
Assist in the management and implementation of employee assistance programs and other early intervention programs.
Assist in the management and development of wellbeing initiatives to support employee wellbeing with a physical, emotional and/or psychological focus.
Provide secretariat support to the National Workplace Health and Safety Committee, including the preparation of agendas, booking meeting rooms, sending invitations, following up action items, coordinating membership and taking minutes.
Develop and maintain strong internal and external relationships and represent Safety, Wellbeing and People support, as well as People Branch in a positive manner.
Provide support to WHS networks (Health and Safety Representatives - HSRs, First Aid Officers, Workplace Contact Officers) across the department to address issues and concerns, and managing HSRs across the work groups, notifying Comcare of changes.
Eligibility Advanced Diploma or Certificate IV in Work Health Safety or willingness to obtain and experience relevant to the role are desirable.
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Notes A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
The department does currently offer flexible work opportunities for many roles.
This vacancy is ACT - Industry House based, although flexible or remote work arrangements may be considered.
