About the Opportunity:

Based in the Rosebud Office, you may also be required to work at various locations within the Mornington Peninsula Shire. This role involves delivering top-notch legal services to the Council, covering areas such as contracts, property, commercial matters, insurance, and procurement under the guidance of the General Counsel. Responsibilities include assisting with knowledge management and compliance practices, including maintaining precedents, clause databases, and conducting training programs. You will also handle legal responses to regulatory projects, promote ethical conduct, and encourage teamwork within the department.

About the Team:

You will be a part of the Office of the CEO Directorate, working within the Legal & Governance Unit.

Responsibilities of the Role:

Provide high-quality legal services, including strategic legal advice, legal risk management, and project management in a timely manner.Work independently, offering legal advice of basic to medium complexity without needing review.Manage a substantial caseload, ensuring alignment with Council's objectives and timelines.Draft, develop, review, and negotiate agreements, tenders, and contracts in line with Council's Procurement Policy and strategic goals.Handle multiple work streams and produce high-quality work within tight deadlines while delivering community-focused solutions. Requirements: A law degree or equivalent and admission to practice as a solicitor in Victoria.Relevant experience in providing high-quality legal advice within a government or complex regulatory environment.Capability to offer commercial, straightforward, and strategic legal advice.Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills, including the ability to interpret extensive information and prepare reports.Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
