Role Overview

This position offers expert Environmental assistance to our APAC business operations. You'll have the chance to contribute to various projects as part of an international team.

The main objective involves enhancing environmental performance, ensuring compliance with Hitachi Rail's obligations, and providing guidance to the Project Management Team in meeting environmental legislation and client requirements.

Occasional international travel is required for this position, thus a willingness to travel bi-monthly is vital.

Responsibilities:

  • Represent the company in environmental matters in APAC, supporting colleagues and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Formulate and implement environmental and sustainability strategies, aligning with group objectives and policies.
  • Maintain ISO14001 accreditation and enhance the environmental management system at the local level.
  • Monitor and report environmental performance to meet targets and compliance obligations.
  • Conduct site audits to ensure adherence to environmental management processes and sustainable practices.
  • Analyze environmental performance data, recommend improvements, and promote sustainable initiatives.
  • Enhance employee awareness of environmental topics through training initiatives.
  • Contribute to tender bids requiring environmental expertise.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislative requirements and contractual obligations.
  • Develop and manage environmental management plans for projects and sites.
  • Promote Hitachi's values and culture diligently.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Degree in an environmental discipline.
  • Certified ISO auditor.
  • Lead Investigator Qualification.
  • Proficient in Australian legal frameworks, State Legislation, and environmental management systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build networks and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Passionate about excellence with a 'can do' attitude.
  • Team player with commitment to collaboration across departments.
  • Proficient in report writing and data analysis.
  • Experienced in environmental policy development and standardization.
  • Skilled in meeting deadlines and achieving set goals individually and as part of a team.

Desirable Skills/Knowledge:

  • Health and safety expertise.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 45001.
  • Internal or Lead auditor training.
