Sydney, New South Wales, Australia CommBank Full time

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (Bank) is Australia's leading provider of integrated financial services. They are committed to continuously improving governance practices and ensuring that they are aligned with business, stakeholders and customers' needs.

The Financial Services division, led by the Group CFO, partners with all areas of the Commonwealth Bank to provide financial control and specialist advice on financial management and strategy. This advice covers finance, audit, treasury, investor relations, security and property.

See yourself in our team

Group Treasury forms part of the wider Financial Services division. Group Treasury is responsible for the Group's funding and liquidity management, capital forecasting and execution, and asset and liability management. Group Treasury works closely with the business units across a number of areas providing strategic assistance and advice to support the decision-making processes of the Asset & Liability Committee (ALCO), Executive Committee and the Board.

Group Treasury Finance provides management accounting and product control support for Group Treasury Front Office operations, including Portfolio Management (Asset & Liability Management, Liquidity Investment Portfolio [LIP]), Group Funding & Liquidity and Capital & Regulatory Strategy desks. It also provides daily and monthly accounting and performance management and planning for front office desks, the Treasury leadership team and Group Finance.

Do work that matters

This role is wide reaching and not prescriptive in every sense. You will be responsible for designing, building and maintaining large-scale financial databases to support the production of daily financial results of Treasury front office desks and provide other product control functions to ensure operation and control of product systems and the financial accounting environment in which the Treasury desks operate.

The role is also involved in driving process efficiency to ensure the control and reporting functions are operating on a best practice basis. Overall the Treasury results are a large proportion of both Financial Services' and the Group's results and are more complex in nature. As a consequence there needs to be constant monitoring and explanation of the results.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement data pipelines to extract, transform, and load financial data from various sources.
  • Develop and maintain databases.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity and security.
  • Ensure the daily Treasury P&L results of certain treasury front office desks are timely, accurate and complete with necessary performance explanations.
  • Implement data visualisation tools to provide insights and trends to stakeholders
  • Drive best practice P&L reporting and product control via productivity improvements, process efficiency and innovation initiatives.
  • Assist with the production and review of reporting within the Finance Community framework as required,
  • Optimise data processing and querying performance
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in financial data engineering

We're interested in hearing from people who have:

  • Experience in data engineering with a focus on financial data (accounting knowledge desirable)
  • Sound programming skills in languages such as SQL (required), Python (Strong preference), VBA, R, C++ and being able to apply their knowledge to drive process efficiency and innovation.
  • Commercial awareness and business partnering abilities
  • Ability to form sound working relationships and influence people
  • Knowledge of financial markets, instruments and regulations
  • Ability to identify current and potential issues in database configurations, workflows, automation scrips and to devise & implement appropriate process improvements in response
  • Ability to analyse & solve complex problems involving transactions spanning multiple Business Units
  • Industry experience and understanding of Treasury operations
  • Experience with database query tools (particularly SQL), excel and product systems such as WALLSTREET, Murex
